Clearly used, but you'll say "man, that's in pretty good shape!" Comes with used GI buttplate. Wood will be smooth and pretty-much ding-free. I doubt you will feel compelled to refinish one of these, but depending how picky you are, you may want to get out some of the compression dings - easy to do with our included instructions...still, they are likely to be solid "excellents", in your opinion as well as mine.

    Tiger-Stripes: Some stocks have various alternating light and dark bands in such a variety they are hard to describe, but "tiger stripe" is as good a description as any.

    These stocks can be quite "showy". Birch is usually a bit more "showy" than walnut - the stripes generally stand out in higher contrast than in walnut. But both woods are considered premo stocks when they have "tiger stripes" - fancy wood grain.

    Please consider this "option" as a real option, in the sense that these stocks are so scarce we may not be able to find one - so that "Plan A" - what you ordered, with the stripes, may not be available, and "Plan B" may result in a stock without the stripes - or with a lesser amount of stripes - showing up. We'll adjust the price to reflect the lesser (or no) striping, as the case may be.

   Please also understand that the "%" of tiger-stripes is an "eyeball" estimate, considerably subjective, but we try to get a pretty accurate estimation, if we can find one at all.

    Please also understand there's a wide variety in the "striping". Some are narrow and well-defined; others are wide and somewhat diffuse; some somewhat fainter; some bolder; some are "rising suns" (a 'sunburst' pattern in the butt area). In other words, each one is unique...

     We include free instructions for refinishing to bring out the stripes, if you choose to do so.

     Also, it would be wise in the "comments" box of the shopping cart to give an indication of whether, if the choice is between two stocks, and one has a little better striping, but the other is in a little better shape, which you want us to choose - better wood, or better striping...

     These stocks are very scarce (obviously). We will try to pick the best we can locate, for your order.
